Mixed Media Canvas

Here is the result of my first go at a mixed media canvas. Been wanting to have a go at this for ages and really enjoyed making this. Really pleased with how this has turned out.

I have put a bit of "How to Make" below with some photos I took along the way. Some of the products used were stash from my cupboards and some I have had for years.

Draw around the shaped canvas onto 300gsm card and cut out.
Decide where you want to tears around the edges.
A spray of water will make this easier and help the card to curl.

Attach the card to the canvas with a strong PVA glue or Mod Podge.

Add some texture to the canvas which can be seen in the gaps with a texture paste.

Use a stencil and Pebeo sand texture paste to add areas of texture.

Use a different stencil and a smooth paste to add further areas of interest.

Cut a heart shape from grey board. Emboss pieces of white card with Crafter's
Companion 3D Regency Swirls folder and attach to the heart in a patchwork.
Add dots of liquid pearls at the joins and secure to the canvas.

Now start to add embellishments. I found some small MDF butterflies and some flowers made from paper clay and silicone moulds I made ages ago.

I have also added some hearts and swirls die-cut from mount board and added dots of liquid pearls.

Finally I have added some different sizes of Mixed Media Artsy Stone in small clumps around the edges. I used quite a lot of Mod Podge to hold these in place.

When you are happy with all the embellishments paint over everything with white Gesso. You may need extra coats of Gesso over some areas such as the MDF to make everything the same colour.

Now for some colour!
I used a mixture of paints found in the cupboard in shades of blue, purple and pink.
Paint the insides of the tears and the heart in the middle.

Pain the rest of the background with a neutral creamy shade (forgot picture!)

Now add colour to the other embellishments and textured areas. Use the colours lightly on the background and try to blend with the background colour.

Add some areas of shadow under the embellishments using a black pen
and pulling out the colour with a damp brush.

Now dry brush over the whole canvas with white Gesso. Use a large dry brush and pick up a small amount of white gesso, work the paint into the brush and dry brush the paint over everything.

Stamp, cut and colour six butterflies using Crafter's Companion Flutterby - Botanical Butterfly and Spectrum Noir Sparkle ink pens. Shape the wings and layer two butterflies together.

Finally make the flowers. I have made these from Flower forming foam.
Die-cut the layers of flowers with various dies and colour with inks then heat and shape. Layer the petals together to make flowers and add to the canvas.

Here are a few more photos of the finished canvas.

Colourista Enchanted Forest

Here are some coloured images from one one the new Colourista pads by Crafter's Companion.
These are from the A4 Enchanted Forest Marker Pad which has some really lovely images which can be used in Home Decor projects, cards or just framed to make a beautiful picture. They have all been coloured with Spectrum Noir Colourista Markers.

This chap is one of my favourites! I have simply used the coloured image to add to the top of a box.

All I could think of when I first saw this tree was I book I used to read when I was about 9 called
'The Magic Faraway Tree' - I loved that book!
Not sure how that thought made me colour this rainbow tree - but there we have it!!!

A simple card using part of one of the pages.

Finally, a tree house in the woods. Just popped this into a picture frame which would look
great on a child's bedroom wall.

Hope you like the look of this new coloured pad.

Glamour Box

Hello Crafter's,

Here is a box I have made for the launch of the Sara Signature Glamour Collection. Some of you may have seen this on the launch shows on Hochanda and I think there have been a few requests for a tutorial on how it was made.

This may be quite a long post with lots of photos, but I hope you are able to follow my guide!

In case you didn't see this on TV, this is the inside of the box.
The front panels open out and each one has a slip case and draw attached. In the centre is a smaller box which in sectioned into small compartments.

Here we go!

Glamour Box

My original idea for this project was to make a jewellery box with a difference – inspired by the new Sara Signature Glamour Collection

You will need
A4 and A3 Centura Pearl Snow White Hint of Silver card
Big Score board
Collall Tacky Glue

Cut three pieces of A4 card 11½” long. On each piece mark 2 1/8” from the corners along each edge. Trim the corners off. Glue two of the pieces together and put to one side.

Back Panels. Cut one piece of card 7¼” x 8¼” Score at 3/8” using the box lid side of the board along the shorter side. Cut two pieces of card 3 3/8” x 8¼” Score at 3/8” on one long side and one short side. Cut away where the score lines cross.

Attach the back panels to the base piece which is two layers of card (from step 1) and join the two smaller side panels to the larger back panel with the tabs.

Cut card pieces as follows. One piece 7 ¼” x 8 ¼”, two pieces 3” x 8 ¼” and two pieces 4” x 8 ¼” Score at 3/8” using the box lid side of the board on each piece along the shorter edges. Attach each piece to the box base using the tabs. Adhere the third base shape from step 1 to cover the tabs. Line the inside of all the side panels with Centura Pearl card.

1  Box Lid. Cut A3 card 14 7/8” x 11 5/8” Working on the back of the card, mark pencil lines on all edges at 1 5/8” At each corner mark a point 2 1/8” along the lines. Join these points together across the corners. Next draw a line 1 5/8” parallel to the corner line.

Draw 90˚ lines from each intersection. Cut the lines on the longer edges and leave tabs on the shorter edges (corners)

Score along the 1 5/8” lines and the tab lines. Burnish the score lines and glue the tabs to make the lid.

Draws and Slip Covers. Front Draw. Cut card 8 ½” x 9 ¾” Score at 1” using box base side of board on all four sides. Trim tabs at the corners, burnish the score lines and glue the tabs. For the slip cover cut card 15 ¼” x 7 ¾” Using the box lid side of the board score at 1 1/8” and 7 3/8”. Fold the last score line up against the edge of the board and score again at 1 1/8” and 7 3/8” Burnish all score lines and glue to make the cover. Attach the slip cover to inside of box and add draw

Side Draws – make two. Cut card 5 ½” x 9 ¾” Score at 1” using box base side of board on all four sides. Trim tabs at the corners, burnish the score lines and glue the tabs. For the slip cover cut card 10” x 7 ¾” Using the box lid side of the board score at 1 1/8” and 4 ¾” Fold the last score line up against the edge of the board and score again at 1 1/8” and 4 ¾” Burnish all score lines and glue to make the cover. Attach the slip covers to inside of box and add draws

Diagonal Corner Draws – make two. Cut card 3 ¾” x 9 ¾” Score at 5/8” using box base side of board on all four sides. Trim tabs at the corners, burnish the score lines and glue the tabs. For the slip cover cut card 7 ¼” x 7 ¾” Using the box lid side of the board score at ¾” and 3 3/8” Fold the last score line up against the edge of the board and score again at ¾” and 3 3/8” Burnish all score lines and glue to make the cover. Attach the slip covers to inside of box and add draws.

1 Inner Box. Cut card 14 ½” x 11 ½” Score at 4” using the box lid side of the board on all four sides. Cut tabs on each side and glue to make box. Attach to box base.

Cut card 7 ½” x 10 ½” Score at 2” using box base side of the board on all four sides. Cut tabs and glue to make a box. Cut strips of card 2”  wide and use to create compartments within the box.

Cut card 7 ¼” x 10 ¼” Score at 1 7/8” using box base side of the board on all four sides. Cut tabs and glue to make a box. Cut strips of card 1 7/8”  wide and use to create compartments within the box.
